We booked this hotel through Secret Escapes and were looking forward to going. Receptionist was kind enough to upgrade us upon arrival to a room as this was a late honeymoon celebration. There were several problems with this room firstly the room was exceptionally cold (reported the air con) also we had a lot of noise from the utility room/kitchen areas below our room, we could also hear our very noisy neighbours late at night of which these points were reported. The night reception did call The neighbours in question however but it was just as bad the next morning. The reception offered an alternative smaller room in between other rooms 2 days before we were due to leave which was pointless to move then. We noted there were other suites available with pools but were not offered these. Possibly due to them closing the hotel later in the month and wanting to keep the pools and rooms unused for that time (this was the only reason we could see and surmised this). Although my complaints are ongoing the Customer satisfaction aftercare is very disappointing too and communication is now being ignored by the hotel. Not what you would expect from a supposed 5 star hotel. The waiting staff were always very polite and accommodating though and very clean. It was exceptionally expensive for what it was however. Disappointing.…
Having visited La Residence five years ago & had a fabulous holiday, we decided to make a second visit recently. Big mistake. Don’t get me wrong. This is definitely a five star resort with a lovely hotel & wonderful staff, but this time, in our opinion, the food let the hotel down big style. Absolutely no sign of any Greek food. There was a small choice buffet breakfast in the morning, massively downsized from our previous visit but they did have an eggs choice menu. Not everyone wants eggs everyday. The evening meal was a nouvelle cuisine style (popular in the 70’s) 5 course tasting menu with no choice (I asked) except the main course. Starting with Amuse Bouche which is a mouthful of guacamole or hummus or similar often served on a spoon with a rice crisp followed by second course of a cold soup. The almond soup came around twice on a 7 night holiday. For instance the sea bass choice was the size of a fish finger. The night I chose chicken, it was five one inch size cubes of chicken, with three smaller pieces of potato & two even smaller pieces of corn and 3 squirts of some milky foam. Note : The Chef is a big fan of goats cheese, yogurt, Creme fraiche, beetroot & squid ink. You could probably have fed the whole hotel from one chicken. Followed by a fish course then a choice of mains & lastly a dessert. For someone who doesn’t eat dessert Except ice cream, I was told I cannot have an ice cream in the evening, even though it was on the poolside & room service menu during the day for 9 euros. I heard other guests asking to change choices & the reply was always no. We saw no salad of any description except baby cherry tomatoes were used when Greece has wonderful big tomatoes absolutely full of flavour, and there were practically no vegetables. We did choose to eat out a couple of times to enjoy Greek cuisine & went on the local bus into Mykonos. I know the GB Pound to the Euro exchange rate is not the best, but €30 for the cheapest house wine is extortionate. A gin & tonic was €15, a small beer was €7, a coke was €5 or €6, a bottle of still water was €5 and sparkling water was €7. After dinner everyone disappeared obviously not wanting to pay those prices, so there was no atmosphere in the bar area. The weather was great which we enjoyed but we shall definitely not be returning to La Residence.…
My wife and I have just returned from La Residence. We selected this '5 Star' boutique hotel from Secret Escapes in order to celebrate our Pearl Wedding Anniversary. What a disappointment it has been. La Residence is located in a very small community about 15 minutes drive from Mykonos town. In October only one taverna is open in addition to the hotel restaurant so you will need a car unless you rely on the infrequent bus service. On arrival we were upgraded to a shared pool room (pool between 4 rooms) - I hesitate to call it a suite - which is quite well furnished and clean, although I found a part used packet of cigarattes on the wardrobe. Further, there is very little privacy in the room with other guests walking down past the pool area and a constant stream of staff. One of the downsides is that there is no 5 star amenities in the room e.g. no coffee/tea making, a small empty fridge, and no music system etc. The coffee/tea making arrangements are bizarre - you can phone the bar to deliver coffee and tea at no charge but if you actually go to the bar then each coffee is charged at Euro 5. Our room telephone was not working properly so we had to phone via reception to be put through to the bar, although reception was not always attended. We had the worst bed we have ever experienced. Both of us struggled to sleep and awoke each morning in excruciating back pain. We ended up using the pool beds outside our room! The bed needs a new mattress asap. The area outside of our room was wet with dripping 'water' from adjacent rooms. There was no doormat so we constantly walked in with wet feet. The bar prices were crazy. We like to sit at the bar after dinner but were not prepared to pay those prices. It seemed everyone was in agreement as it was empty every night. We had a free dinner for the last night but after reviews and comments from guests we forego the offer. We did have lunch on the departing day which was excellent. Breakfast was OK but limited - continental followed by an egg menu. The room itself was quite well furnished but it was not a suite. Apart from two dining chairs there was nowhere else to sit - not even the terrace which had two pool beds. Air conditioning was good and in room WiFi worked reasonably well. The staff, in particular Kikki, were wonderful and we would have enjoyed their service even more if the hotel had welcomed guests with reasonably priced drinks and meals. The reception and lounge areas are beautifully furnished with a lovely outside pool and views of the sea. The local beach is at least 100-150 m away and the hotel is not beach front as advertised. Be aware the sun beds on the beach are Euro 20 pp and at the nearby beach bar Euro 70 per pair for front line! Unless you like total seclusion and are happy paying ridiculous prices, then I cannot recommend this hotel. For the price we paid we have stayed in far superior hotels.…
We had a short 10 break in this hotel. A luxurious hotel with outstanding accommodation. On arrival we had to go to an alternative hotel for one night but were then upgraded to a suite. The location and ambiance was fantastic and the food (though small on portions) was wonderful). A restful luxurious location ideal for a short holiday.
We have just come back from an amazing, relaxing week at the hotel. The staff were so welcoming and attentive and accommodated all of the requests we had. From the Reception girls, to the breakfast team, to the dinner team - even the Maintenance Manager and House Keeping Teams. The whole team was fantastic and did a brilliant job/work very hard! The hotel is very close to the beach and has a superb bus service running regularly and efficiently to take into Mykonos Town - much cheaper than a taxi!! We are definitely missing our time at the hotel and have holiday blues!
Let's be clear, this is a super hotel with excellent staff and buildings, and a very good kitchen. Our room is great, the plumbing excellent. Pity that the shower floor does not drain; the room safe is accessible if you lie on the floor and the nice silent fridge is in an unventilated cupboard so cannot work. The lovely bed is in a corner so one of us has to access it by climbing up from the foot. There is one stand for a suitcase and a small shelf in the wardrobe, no drawers for shirts and socks so living out of the cases and kneeling on the floor for one of us. None of this is news to the management. The food is nouvelle cuisine and very well done, l thought that fad had been discredited even when it was all the rage about forty years ago but here it is alive and well. One hopes that they will realise Greece has a proud tradition of culinary excellence and when that happens l want to be here. Until then there are several local restaurants that offer better food than might be expected, albeit at Mykanos prices. It is cheaper to eat out than pay the bar bill. This year we were given an upgrade to a splendid suite with lots of space and the only sign of Greek Pity because it is a super place and could easily be superb.…
This 5 star boutique hotel is immaculate. It has an award winning chef with Michelin star quality food . It is modern , beautifully designed & located in a quiet bay but within walking distance of the beach club & several good local Greek restaurants . The hotel will arrange a complimentary transfer for you from the airport if you email them in advance . The journey is only 20mins. We didn’t originally know this was included in our stay . We paid €152 with WelcomePick Ups who were excellent. All of the staff are very professional, friendly ,& helpful. They honestly bent over backwards for us. The cleaners work tirelessly to make sure the rooms are spotless & serviced twice a day . Beach towels, bathroom towels , and x1 bottle of water are replaced daily . Each guest has robes & slippers . Air conditioning, Flat screen tv , a safe . Some bedrooms come with a private jacuzzi also . All of the staff really work hard as a team to give you the best possible customer experience . We were thrilled with our upgrade from Sofia , to our room 412 which had ground level access to a private pool with our own sunloungers . All of the swimming pools have a lifeguard and pool maintenance team to make sure they are clean & safe to use all day. This hotel is perfect for couples , or friends who want a chilled out relaxing holiday . I would feel confident to come here on my own as a single traveller . If you have childrens or want more in entertainment or activities then I would look elsewhere . The taxis are approx €40 one way into Mykonos town which is approximately 20mins. I loved it so much here I extended my stay by 2 nights and rescheduled my flights . I’m looking forward to coming back next season . Thank you to the team at La Residence for a well needed pamper week ! …
We loved every minute of every day we spent here. La Residence is set in a Beautiful location, impeccably clean, Amazing Staff and service provided by all especially Kiki and Meltos! The beach is just a short walk away with great beach clubs and a variety of restaurants . Mykonos town only 20 minutes away. Food outstanding!! We will be back.
We arrived late and wanted some dinner. The only option in the restaurant was a 5 course dinner. It was really good but not what we wanted after a long journey. The only A La Carte options are for room service and guests should have the option to chose whether they would like set menu or a la carte in the restaurant. The sea view room was nice but felt slightly more basic than the online pics. The balcony is small and difficult to close the shutters with the chairs and table. There is no iron allowed in the rooms but the hotel offer 3 complimentary items per day. The ironing took over a day to be returned. If ironing is a safety issue, maybe they should have an ironing room that the guests can use. The TV is placed on a wall in such a way that is side on from the bed. It could be on another wall or swivel bracket. There are no tea making facilities in the room however they provide free tea and coffee delivered to the room. It is a shame that these drinks or chargeable if you sit in the lounge area. The main pool unfortunately is too deep to stand in to relax so we resorted to the connecting jacuzzi on many occasions. The layout of the pools means that you can see the private pools but cannot make use of them even when they are empty. The lifeguards are great, very friendly and helpful. Delia and Sofia are excellent hosts at reception and nothing was too much trouble for them. The breakfast has ample choices for continental and hot food can be ordered. The two ladies who run the breakfast service are great but we feel they need more help with the amount of guests they need to serve. The evening staff are very helpful and friendly too. It seems that the manager selects who she speaks to; it really doesn’t take much to acknowledge the guests. There were many occasions when the effort could’ve have been made. However, the rest of the staff make up for hospitality lacking from the manager. The location of the hotel is a few mins walk from the beach and there are plenty of restaurants in walking distance. All in all, the hotel is great place for having time out but all those little amenities missing could have made our stay extra special. …
Spent a lovely week in this hotel in June, lucky enough to get upgraded had our own area for the pool own sun loungers and a cabana. Hotel amazing lovely staff. Food very good standard but very little Greek food served which was a shame as in Greece and we love Greek food. Each evening there were 5 courses only had chose of 2 for main meal, when I said there were things I did not like for example Beef tartar they exchanged with something else. They did like to serve cold soup which I am not a fan of. They had a spa massage area which was closed unless you wanted to book but it was extremely expensive so no takers
